A man is searching for his auntie who he hasn’t seen since the day he was born.

Rob De Silva, 19, contacted the ECHO to try and help him find his auntie Florence, who has been estranged from the family for years.

Rob said the only time he met Florence is an occasion he doesn’t remember – as it was the day he was born, in 2002. She brought him a teddy bear which he still has.

He told the ECHO his aunt had lived in Liverpool all her life and had never married or had children.

Rob said: “The last that any of us heard from her was when my uncle spoke to her about eight years ago.

“She used to live on Halewood Road first, then she moved to Hughes Avenue in 2013-ish and then we found out she lived on St Christopher’s Drive.

“But she’s gone from there because I did send her a letter at Christmas but I received a response to say that she’d moved a few years ago.”

Rob said the reason the main reason he wants to find his auntie – who would now be 68 – is because his extended family is quite split up and he wants bring them closer together.

He posted the most recent photo he had of Florence – taken about 30 years ago – on Facebook and received an encouraging response.

He found out that Florence De Silva used to run a slimming club, and at one point she worked in Sayers in Williamson Square.

Rob said: “When I posted it out on Facebook, surprisingly, there were a lot of people who said they knew her but unfortunately nobody was in touch with her now.

“She used to run some slimming clubs in the 1990s, and then someone said she was a hairdresser.

“And most recently, one person said they’d seen her about 18 months ago in Tesco in Prescot.”

He added: “Before we moved house five years ago she used to send Christmas and birthday cards every single year, but we had no way of sending them back as we didn’t know where she was.

“For all we know she could still be sending cards!”

Rob said from the posts on Facebook he received people said Florence was a nice person who was really funny.

One person told him that she used to live with another woman called Ann Black who unfortunately had died but they used to run a slimming club together.

Rob said: “Last year I did contact the registry office just to make sure that she hadn’t died and they said there was no record of her passing away,” adding: “With everything that’s going on, we just want to make sure she’s okay. ”
